Black History Month Quiz
With support from The Bridge New Deal for Communities, Nubian Jak will deliver a BHM quiz in the borough of Haringey at the Triangle Centre on 31st October. The format of the quiz will involve members of the public taking part in a diversity quiz covering the topics of literature and art, entertainment, modern history, science and technology, sport, and politics and law.
Prizes will include:
- 1st Prize Nubian Jak board Game, Nubian Jak Book of World Facts and Nubian Jak A3 Posters Diversity Set (Mary Seacole, Samuel Coleridge Taylor, Claudia Jones, Marcus Garvey, Oluadah Equiano and Bob Marley)
- 2nd Prize Nubian Jak Book of World Facts and Nubian Jak Olympic A3 Posters Set (Daley Thompson, Linford Christie and Kelly Holmes)
- 3rd Prize Nubian Jak Olympic A3 Posters Set (Daley Thompson, Linford Christie and Kelly Holmes)

Efiba Arts and African Cultural Development 2007 Black History Month Celebrations
Efiba Arts with the support of the New Deal for Communities is producing a dance drama entitled “The New Dawn” during the Black History Month to commemorate 200 years of the formal Abolition of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. The finale performance will be performed at the new Bernie Grants Centre on the 31st October 2007 along with other artists on the day.
The production will incorporate indigenous African music, dances, mime and dialogue. We need 25 young people aged between 12 and 25 mainly from the NDC area to audition and take up roles as cast and/or production crew.
Throughout the month of October, Efiba Arts will be touring Haringey Schools to organise workshops on various aspect of African culture including:
- Traditional cloth designing (Adinkra)
- Drumming and Dancing
- Costuming
- Traditional indoor and outdoor Games
- Story-telling etc

Weekly training sessions
Efiba Arts runs a Thursday African Drumming and Dance Club for children and young people at St Ann’s Library Hall from 4:30pm to 6:30pm (Due to the renovation works currently taking place at the library, the sessions have been shifted to Templeton Hall on Fridays at the same time at.
Adult African Drumming and Dance lessons are also held at the Templeton Hall every Tuesday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Please join us to learn the culture, have fun and keep fit.
Half Term Drama Class
The class will run from 22nd Oct to 26th OCT at Tiverton Primary School. The aim of this project is to work with children aged 8-11year olds to participate in black history month. The children will be rehearsing a play based on black history. At the end of the week they will perform a play in front of The Bridge New Deal for Communities staff, board members and their parents.
