Election of Resident Board Members to The Bridge New Deal for Communities

At the Board meeting of the Bridge New Deal for Communities held on the 19th September 2007, The Board made a decision to delay the Resident Board member elections currently scheduled for December 2007 to allow for time to work through the succession and legacy plans.

The Bridge New Deal for Communities Board also agreed to look, in consultation with its accountable body (Haringey Council), at the issue of resident board member elections and overall governance matters in the context of the succession and legacy plans in April 2008. The delay will allow the Partnership time to consult all key stakeholders in order to work up the succession and legacy plans including governance arrangements that will ensure that investments and improvements of services within the Seven Sisters area will continue beyond 2011.

The Bridge New Deal for Communities is a ten-year regeneration programme based in the Seven Sisters area since 2001. It is working to improve the lives of residents including investing in large capital projects. Guidance from the Government is clear that New Deal for Community partnerships need to prepare for the end of their programmes and that this needs to take place well before the end of the

10 year programme. The Bridge NDC Board at its meeting of 19th July 2007 agreed to establish the Governance Working Group (GWG) to review issues relating to governance in the context of the succession and legacy plans, including present arrangements for resident board members elections.

The Bridge New Deal for Communities Partnership is working hard to ensure that the its succession and legacy arrangements are explored in detail. The GWG will report back to the Partnership Board with recommendations in March 2008.
