Government Minister Visits NDC

Government Minister Baroness Andrews visited Tottenham on Tuesday 12th August to see for herself the work of The Bridge New Deal for Communities

The Communities and Local Government Minister toured the area and saw the major projects which the NDC has set up to revitalise the area, including:

•The Triangle Children Young People and Community Centre

•Manchester Gardens

•Chestnuts Park

•Sir Frederick Messer

•Tiverton estates; and

•the Laurels Healthy Living Centre.

Baroness Andrews is the Minister responsible for overseeing the work of the New Deal for Communities program.  During the visit she was briefed by the NDC about how it’s implementing its 10-year plan for the area and legacy.

Communities Minister Baroness Andrews said:

"I was delighted to see for myself the efforts that staff at The Bridge are making for the local community. In particular, I was impressed at the progress being made to ensure its impact lasts beyond the programme's lifetime. "Since 1998, the programme has led to a range of benefits and improvements, including reduced crime, higher educational achievements and an overall better quality of life for local people. "That's why I was delighted to confirm nearly £250m funding for NDCs this year, so that this good work can continue, both in North London and across the country."

Cllr George Meehan, leader of Haringey Council, added:

“Together with the Government, we’re committed to improving this part of the borough and we were delighted that the Minister came to see for herself the work being carried out by the NDC in the area.”

Lorne Horsford, Chair of the NDC said:

‘’As a resident board member of the NDC I am delighted that the Minister chose to visit The Bridge NDC. The Bridge NDC works very closely with its local communities in improving the area, it was a pleasure showing her the improvements we have made’’

After the visit the Minister wrote a letter thanking the Bridge NDC for organising the visit.
